San Diego Optometrists

In the early years of San Diego’s medical profession, physicians were few and far between. The pioneer physician was Dr. Robert J. Gregg, a native of Pennsylvania. He earned his medical degree from the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and then travelled to Texas where he contracted yellow fever. After recovering, he returned home to San Diego, where he settled in Old Town. He opened his office in Horton’s Addition, directly opposite Dr. Allen’s drugstore.
